#ManOnTheMoon

Christmas is just around the corner and witness to this is the release of John Lewis' Christmas advert. The international department store, which delivers to more than 30 countries worldwide, has bet in his last commercial on the oldest members of families, producing a masive wage to volunteer to help elderly.

In fact, all TV commercials by John Lewis share the same characteristic,. They all use a cover version of a famous song, which normally reaches high positions in the UK Singles Charts. In addition, they have similar structure in their slogan. This year's slogan reads 'Show someone they're loved this Christmas'. Isn't this cute???? :)

What do you think about Christmas ads? Do you like them? Do you think they are a good representation of the Christmas atmosphere?

Catalonia in British people's eyes

BBC News - Proud of its own identity and language, Catalonia is one of Spain's richest and most highly industrialised regions, and also one of the most independent-minded.

With a distinct history stretching back to the early middle ages, many Catalans think of themselves as a separate nation from the rest of Spain.

This feeling is fed by memories of the Franco dictatorship, which attempted to suppress Catalan identity, and is nowhere more clearly expressed than in the fierce rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Spain's top football clubs.

A roughly triangular region in Spain's far north-east corner, Catalonia is separated by the Pyrenean mountains from southern France, with which it has close historical ties.

Look up from your phone

Around half of the teenagers in Europe and the USA have got smartphones, and more teenagers buy them every day. How often do you use them? Could you imagine your daily life without using your smartphone or the social networking?
If you want to verify how the same love story develops with or without the usage of the social networking, I recommend you the viewing of this short film.
I hope you enjoy, and do not hesitate to comment on your opinion.

'Look Up' is a lesson taught to us through a love story, in a world where we continue to find ways to make it easier for us to connect with one another, but always results in us spending more time alone.

I don't want you to stop using social media or smartphones.
It's about finding a balance. It's about making sure you are awake, alive and living life in the moment; instead of living your life through a screen.

Written, Performed & Directed by Gary Turk.

Time flies...

Welcome to this English class blog. I present you this site as a tool that will be used throughout the current school year 2015-16.
As you may have heard, time flies, and you will be witness of it this same year. In the blink of an eye and without even notice it, you will be facing the certificate exams of Selectividad. I insist on the idea that time flies because I want you to be conscious of the great importance of the following nine months. It is a decisive period that inevitably will mark a before and an after in your life. It probably may be a very hard year. However, I am sure it will become a year you will always remember. There will be time for everything, but you must be aware of the importance of devoting extra-time to those really essential moments of study.

In what concerns the English subject, I encourage you to use this blog as much as possible, where extra material will be provided. In addition, some activities will be proposed for you to participate freely.
Let's get started...
